iTranslate - Translator App Reviews

Flawless

I deal in numerous languages in the day to day of my work and rapidly shifting gears with syntax and connotation can be troublesome. So far I am massively impressed with the speed and accuracy of this app. I would unreservedly recommend it from my initial experience.

Slow and Wrong

The translating is slow and some result are wrong. Try to translate “flare” from English to Chinese. Get a result “flare”. I’m quite sure that is not Chinese characters. NEED REFUND.

RIP OFF

Despute the charge on your credit Card and get your money back. No order cancellation on App Store? Weired!!

Overall, a good first release

I’ll start with the positives. It is very convenient having a translation application hanging out in the menu bar as compared to opening Google Translate every time you want to translate something. Especially since it can be opened with a hot key. Thus far I have not encountered any major problems or bugs. As for things that could be improved, it would be great if you could switch the order of the languages with a key-stroke to avoid having to use the mouse when I want to enter something going the other way as the last time I used the application. Also, translations are also rather slow (not terribly slow, just a little more sluggish than I would like), even with a decent internet connection.

Does not open

This App does not open. I based my decision on the positvie reviews when I should have listened to the negative ones.

Could be better

First Version is Good. My reasons for giving it 3 starts are: 1- English to arabic shows only the translation, no dictionary (probably with all languges)!!! 2- while browsing (safari, chrome) there is no right click shortcut to translate the selected text with itranslate. Universal tranlater on the mac app store has both of these otions.

Won’t open

Are you kidding? An app that won’t open after purchase and download? That’s my experience. Tried it on 3 different computers. Wouldn’t open on any of them. Where’s quality control?

Handy and quick

My initial use of the app was frustrating because I couldn’t get it to translate. I would speak or type in English and wait for the translation to appear as it does on my iPhone. Nothing happenned. Finally, I realized that I must hit the ‘Enter” after speaking or typing my message. Duh! It appears automatically in the iPhone premium version, so that is why I was confused with the Mac version of their software. This is a real timesaver and it is much faster than Google Translate. Thanks!!!

Good translations, clunky interface

This program tends to move the cursor to the end of the text box while I am typing. That’s acceptable when I’m copying and pasting text to translate, since it’s not noticeable. When I’m typing, though, and using the mouse to go back and correct text, it is really annoying. I can type one or two characters, then I have to reposition the cursor again. Maybe their goal is to have me type perfectly the first time. The translations have been good. I can converse with friends in Chile and Germany and rely on this program for some of the idioms that escaped me before. And, I really appreciate the spoken text. It’s very helpful to see and hear at the same time. When I first ran it, I did think that it wasn’t launching. Then I noticed the little iTranslate globe in the menu bar. It’s unexpected that it starts minimized like that. Now that I know that, it’s pretty easy to use (and even easier if you assign a keyboard shortcut to it).

Bad Translation System

English to Spanish and vice versa. Tactical. No context and bad grammatical extractions. Take Google Translate … better and more efficient … the problem is it does not sit in your system. Get working to improve it.

It takes less room than google translate.

I’m satisfied with this App. It took me about 10 minutes to figure it out. It’s easy to use and doesn’t take up 1/4 of my screen. It’s worth the price.

Too slow

Despite of a high-speed university connection, I have to wait 1 second for a word and only see three animated points. I use woerterbuch.info on the dashboard which finds several words with the speed-of-light in comparison to this iTranslate snail.

Not opening!

I have purchased iTtranslate and it won’t open in my computer. If this problem contitnues I will demand a refund.

Great App

Please, highlight the last word used when I open the window, so I can write another word more quickly, otherwise I have to select last word and then delete it, always, or at least put this option in the settings, please.

Misunderstanding over launching: iTranslate DOES launch

I was at first put off by the -ve reviews - about iTranslate not launching. In fact it’s a menu bar app. That’s where it runs from. A single email from the responsive tech support at Sonico cleared that up within hours I’m very happy with it. Thanks!

Worked perfectly

I am a doctor and don’t have many opportunities to use the German I learned in high school. I used this app today to help me explain to a Spanish-speaking patient, to ask him questions and to give him instructions after the visit. It worked perfectly. It handled the medical terminology and medication names without any diffculty. My patient was very impressed and happy with what I did for him and with the translation. It made things much, much better.

Fantastic

Beautiful app. Just what I’ve been waiting for in a translator on OS X. No longer do I need to keep that Google Translate tab open. Though, one note to the developers: the language lists have “Chinese (Mandarin)” with a PRC flag, and “Chinese (Taiwan)” with an ROC flag. Both Taiwan and Mainland China speak Mandarin, so it would be better to list both as Mandarin with the distinction being (Simplified) and (Traditional) respectively. Great work!

Extremely Slow!!

This app translates a single word in 20 seconds. It is so slow that by time i wait for it to translate i can open safari type in the word on google and find the translation. 1star until they fix it.

Needs more work

The translations are not always accurate. I often have to refer to Google translate! What was the point of spending 5 dollars if it can’t get the job done! Also more options should be added such as offline mode.

Awesome wiht some suggestions

I lvoe this app. It’s simple and works extremely well. I do wish there could be an option for offline mode for a language and also that you could create a command to open the app even when it’s closed. But this app is great and works like a champ!
